How does Intentek™ work?
Formica Group integrates coils required for wireless charging into the Intentek™ Surface with a patented method that creates an uninterrupted surface with all the features and benefits of Formica® Brand Laminate.  Formica Group has partnered with a world-class supplier of wireless charging electronics, Convenient Power, for the electronic components. The electronic components are replaceable in the event repairs are required.
How is Intentek™ different from other charging options?
Wireless charging pads add clutter to surfaces and charging pucks require unsightly holes. With both of these options, cleaning, maintenance and durability can be an issue. Similarly, undermount systems can weaken charging performance, resulting in a poor user experience.

Intentek™ Wireless Charging Surface features integrated phone charging technology within the decorative laminate for a beautiful, seamless, clutter-free design and superior user experience. It is easy to clean and maintain and comes in the full range of Formica® Brand Laminate designs.
What is Qi and which phones are compatible?
Qi (pronounced “chee”) is the predominant standard for wireless charging used most commonly by the large device manufacturers. Qi Certified products have passed rigorous, independent laboratory tests for safety, interoperability, energy efficiency and quality. To be Qi certified, they must work with all Qi wireless products around the world regardless of brand or manufacturer.

Because Intentek™ is Qi Certified, it interoperates with all current and future Qi Certified devices around the world regardless of brand or manufacturer. To obtain certification, a Qi device must interoperate on all present Qi devices. In addition, it is required to be backwards compatible to past versions of Qi devices.  These include all current Apple Inc. iPhones newer than iPhone 7, and almost all phones from Samsung®, Sony®, LG Electronics, Nokia, Huawei (by HUAWEI Company), Microsoft® Lumia®, Google Nexus (by ©2018 Google LLC), Motorola (by Motorola Mobility LLC) and others.. Qi Certified cases or dongles can be used for phones that do not support wireless charging.
How safe is the Intentek™ Technology?
Intentek™ Wireless Charging Surfaces meet Qi wireless charging standards for safe, reliable wireless power transfer and device protection. With its Qi Certification, the Intentek™ System has passed rigorous, independent laboratory tests for safety, interoperability, energy efficiency and quality.
Will electrical currents erase credit cards?
No. The Intentek™ Technology includes Foreign Object Detection (FOD), a safety mechanism which automatically interrupts power delivery if there is interference caused by metal foreign objects such as coins, credit cards, etc.
How large is the charging zone?
The charging zone is up to eight (8) times larger than some competitive single coil charging devices (~25 cm2 or 2” diameter). Intentek™ Wireless Charging zones have been designed to “drop & charge,” which means a user can place their phone anywhere on the charging zone and have it charge without any additional steps or manipulation. 
Is the placement of the charging zones customizable?
The placement of the charging zones can be customized, but some parameters need to be followed LINK. Formica Group has a resource available to assist designers through the process.
What’s the power output?
This version of Intentek™ Wireless Charging Surfaces will deliver a maximum of 5 watts, comparable to a traditional five watt charger plugged into an electrical outlet.
How loud is Intentek™?
The Intentek™ Electronics Module has a thermal management system to insure optimal performance which includes a small blower.  The blower used in Intentek electronics module is specified at 28dB(A) at 3400 RPM (1700 RPM in use) – comparable to a laptop computer fan.

Can Intentek™ Wireless Charging Surface be used for things other than charging cell phones?
The current version of Intentek™ Wireless Charging Surface is a Qi Certified wireless charger for Qi enabled devices, mostly cellular phones. Future versions of Intentek™ Wireless Charging Surface could introduce other technologies integrated into laminate.
What is the maximum thickness a phone case can be and still catch the charge with Intentek™ Wireless Charging Surface?
4mm or 0.15”
What designs and finishes are available with Intentek™ Laminate?
On décor, whatever is stocked in 4x8 and 4x10 for standard laminate can be used to make Intentek™ Wireless Charging Surfaces.  On finish, it is available in Matte.  It is not available with Envision™ laminate.
How does a sheet of Intentek™ Wireless Charging Surface differ from standard HPL?
The laminate is thicker (2.3mm). The laminate surface incorporates a coil array. The laminate has to be thicker than standard HPL to make a functional coil system. While this thickness is similar to thinner grade of Compact, we will call the product a laminate.

Because the laminate is thicker, it must be balanced with the same sized backer (2.3mm). The backer is sold as part of the package.
What components is Formica Group selling?

The count for each component will vary by order.

  • Laminate with coils

If I want to, can I hardwire Intentek™ Wireless Charging Surface permanently into the electrical system (vs. use a plug)?
We do not recommend hardwiring. Local safety codes need to be followed.
What types of edging is recommended?
Edge banding or self-applied/straight edge are acceptable edging options. This product cannot be post-formed.  Other decorative edges may be possible, but the thickness of laminate and backer must be taken into consideration when doing edge design.
What is the minimum thickness the substrate needs to be?
=/> 3/4” (19.5mm)
Does the surface need to be completely horizontal to work?
It can work at any angle. Keep in mind that phone alignment could get tricky with a completely vertical application.
Is there any security risk around sharing of information?

No, Intentek™ Wireless Charging Surface does not collect or store any data. Because of this, our customers should not have information-related security concerns.

Qi Certification requires that no personal information is exchanged between the receiver and the transmitter.
