Formica Corporation and Xavier Men’s Basketball Nearing Milestone of 20,000 Planted Trees in “Threes for Trees” Campaign

Program has resulted in 18,860 trees planted in eight previous seasons

CINCINNATI (November 3, 2022) — Fresh off an NIT Championship last season, the Xavier Men’s Basketball team is nearing another milestone for the 2022-2023 season with the help of longtime sponsor Formica Corporation.

When the team makes its 114th three-pointer of the year, it will mean that “Threes for Trees” program will have resulted in 20,000 trees planted to help our nation’s forests.

Along with the Arbor Day Foundation, Xavier University and Learfield Sports’ Xavier Sports Properties, Formica Corporation is proud to sponsor the Threes for Trees promotion. As part of the program (now in its ninth season), ten trees are planted for every three-point basket made by the Xavier Musketeers men’s basketball team during the 2022-2023 season.

"As you watch a game and see a three pointer go in, it may be easy to overlook the impact that 10 planted trees can have," said Amy Gath, vice president, marketing, Formica Corporation North America. "But when you step back and see that we’re nearing 20,000 trees over just nine years, it becomes apparent how each and every one of those made shots adds up to something much larger than just three points.”

Through the first eight seasons of the Threes for Trees promotion, Xavier has averaged 236 made three-pointers per season (including two seasons that were shortened due to the covid-19 pandemic). As always, fans will be updated on the number of threes made, and trees planted, throughout the season through various marketing elements such as graphics and signage inside the Cintas Center, radio broadcasts, and GoXavier.com. All three-pointers made, at both home and away games, count towards the total number of trees planted.

“We are looking forward to an exciting season and continuing our partnership with Formica Corporation and their sponsorship of the Threes for Trees program,” said Duffy House, General Manager of Xavier Sports Properties. “Enhancing the environment through the success of our team on the court is a win for all.”
