Formica Corporation Renews “Threes for Trees” Program with Xavier Men’s Basketball Team and Arbor Day Foundation

Program has resulted in 16,440 trees planted in seven previous seasons

CINCINNATI (November 4, 2021) — With each of the top seven scorers from last season returning to campus this fall, the future for the Xavier University men’s basketball team looks bright. That’s good news for the environment as well, thanks to a unique program headed up by Formica Corporation.

Along with the Arbor Day Foundation, Xavier University and Learfield Sports’ Xavier Sports Properties, Formica Corporation is pleased to announce the return of the Threes for Trees promotion. As part of the program (now in its eighth season), ten trees will be planted for every three-point basket made by the Xavier Musketeers men’s basketball team during the 2021-2022 season.

"One basket, three points, 10 trees – that’s math that any fan can get behind," said Amy Gath, vice president, marketing, Formica Corporation North America. "As sustainable business practices continue to grow in importance year after year, we’re grateful to Xavier and the Arbor Day Foundation for continuing to support us in this one-of-a-kind partnership.”

Despite multiple covid-related cancellations that plagued college basketball last year, Xavier made 162 three pointers last season resulting in 1,620 trees being planted in the Econfina Watershed. Through seven seasons, 16,440 trees have been planted by Formica Corporation, Arbor Day Foundation and Xavier Basketball.

Xavier Men's Basketball fans will be updated on the number of threes made, and trees planted, throughout the season through various marketing elements such as graphics and signage inside the Cintas Center, radio broadcasts, and GoXavier.com. All three-pointers made, at both home and away games, count towards the total number of trees planted.

“We are looking forward to continuing our partnership this season with the Formica Corporation on the Threes for Trees program. Our fans enjoy the excitement of a three-point shot and appreciate Formica’s contribution to our environment. This is a successful program and we are thankful for Formica’s continued support of Xavier Athletics,” said Duffy House, General Manager of Xavier Sports Properties.
