Formica Corporation and Xavier University Renew Threes for Trees

Partnership with Arbor Day Foundation has resulted in 14,820 planted trees

CINCINNATI (November 19, 2020) — While the 2020-2021 basketball season may look different than ever before with limited fans permitted inside the Cintas Center due to COVID-19, Formica Corporation remains committed to making an impact outside the arena with its annual Threes for Trees partnership.

In conjunction with the Arbor Day Foundation, Xavier University and Learfield Sports’ Xavier Sports Properties, Formica Corporation announces that it will return as the title sponsor of the seventh annual Threes for Trees promotion. As part of the program, ten trees will be planted for every three-point basket made by the Xavier Musketeers men’s basketball team during the 2020-2021 season.

"I think it’s safe to say we’re all looking forward to seeing the team back on the court and celebrating every made basket after this difficult year," said Amy Gath, vice president, marketing, Formica Corporation North America. "The added bonus of knowing those three pointers result in a positive impact for the environment make the return to the hardwood even sweeter.”

In last year’s shortened season, Xavier made 207 three pointers resulting in 2,070 trees being planted throughout key regions in the United States. Through six seasons, 14,820 trees have been planted by Formica Corporation, Arbor Day Foundation and Xavier Basketball.

“We’re thrilled to see Formica Corporation and Xavier Basketball once again come together to make an impact off of the court,” said Dan Lambe, president of the Arbor Day Foundation. “These institutions’ continued commitment to environmental stewardship will help preserve the beauty and value of our nation’s forests for generations to come.”

Xavier Men's Basketball fans will be updated on the number of threes made, and trees planted, throughout the season through various marketing elements such as graphics and signage inside the Cintas Center, radio broadcasts, and GoXavier.com. All three-pointers made, at both home and away games, counted towards the total number of trees planted.

“The Threes for Trees partnership has been a tremendous success and we’re looking forward to continuing the program again this season. The thrill of a player making a three point shot that then translates directly to helping our environment is a win for all. We are grateful for our partner Formica Corporation and their continued support of Xavier Athletics and this incredible promotion,” said Duffy House, General Manager of Xavier Sports Properties.
