Formica Corporation and Xavier University Renew Threes for Trees

CINCINNATI (October 29, 2019) — The three-point shot has often been called the great equalizer in a basketball game, but at Xavier University, a three-pointer stretches beyond the court thanks to a one-of-a-kind partnership with Formica Corporation.

Formica Corporation and the Arbor Day Foundation are pleased to once again partner with Xavier University and Learfield Sports’ Xavier Sports Properties for the sixth season of Threes for Trees. As part of the program, ten trees will be planted for every three-point basket made by the Xavier Musketeers men’s basketball team during the 2019-2020 season.

Last season, Xavier made 245 three pointers resulting in 2,450 trees being planted in Georgia’s Upper Altamaha Watershed. Through five seasons, 12,750 trees have been planted by Formica Corporation, Arbor Day Foundation and Xavier Basketball.

"When you step back and look at the volume of trees we’ve planted through just five years of this program, the numbers are really staggering," said Amy Gath, vice president, marketing, Formica Corporation North America. "It’s fun to check the stat sheet at the end of the game and think about 50, 60, 70 or more trees being planted as a result of Xavier’s shooting ability.”

Xavier Men's Basketball fans will be updated on the number of threes made, and trees planted, throughout the season through various marketing elements such as graphics and signage inside the Cintas Center, radio broadcasts, and GoXavier.com. All three-pointers made, at both home and away games, counted towards the total number of trees planted.
