Disinfecting Formica® Brand Surfaces

Disinfecting has never been a more important issue than it is today.

Cleaning and disinfecting the surfaces you encounter every day has never been a more important issue than it is today. Killing viruses on any surface requires specific disinfectants. Formica Corporation's goal is for our products to not only meet your design and aesthetic goals, but that they are also engineered to withstand stringent cleaning protocols.

The EPA publishes a list of disinfectant products list that meet its criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. There are over 420 products listed and more are added every day.  The list is searchable by EPA registration number, the active ingredient, the use, and the contact time required.

Formica® Brand surfaces have been tested to each of the key active compound categories represented on the EPA Approved List N products using the NEMA 3.4 Spot Test method.  The results were used to provide recommendations on the best disinfectants to use on Formica® Brand products, so that you can achieve the cleanliness you require, while maintaining the beauty of your Formica® surfaces.

For Formica® HPL, DecoMetal® Metal Laminates, FENIX™ Materials, and Formica Infiniti® Surfacing, we recommend disinfecting with:

1) Quaternary Ammonium which is the largest group (198 listed) of EPA approved disinfectants.  Examples of Quaternary Ammonium products include: Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes, Lysol®, Virex®, Caviwipes®

2) Alcohols both Ethanol and Isopropanol.  Examples include:  Purell® Professional Surface Disinfectant Wipes, Klercide™ 70/30 IPA

3) Sodium Hypochlorite or Bleach.  Examples include:  Clorox Healthcare® Bleach Germicidal Wipes, Ultra Clorox® Regular Bleach 8.25%, Caviwipes™ Bleach…

4) Hydrogen Peroxides.  Examples include:  Clorox Commercial Solutions® Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaner Disinfectant, Oxivir®, Accel®

Additionally, FENIX™ and Formica Infiniti® surfaces can be disinfected with Phenolic disinfectants such as, Steris LpH®, Opti-Phene, or Wex-Cide 1128.
