Formica Group Celebrates 110th Anniversary in 2023

The first and original inventors of laminate, we are commemorating our history and future throughout the year.

2023 brings the fantastic opportunity for us to reflect on and celebrate 110 years of Formica® Brand Patterns. We’ll be revisiting the stories from some of the most unique, interesting and perhaps famous Formica® Patterns from our history. New stories will be shared monthly, so check back to learn a little more about some of our favourite patterns.

January - Moonglo

Designer Morris B Sanders was inspired by the moonlight reflecting on water.

February - Capri + Nassau

Two iconic patterns introduced by Raymond Loewy Associates in the 1950s.

March - Laurinda Spear

The Formica® Team connects with Laurinda Spear to create an innovative line of patterns.

April - The 180fx Collection

Bringing large-scale drama of exotic and expensive natural stone to everyday spaces.

May - Botanicals

The beauty of flora and fauna has inspired many Formica® Laminate patterns since 1951.

June - Formations Collection

The Formations Collection was launched in 1990, offering tone-on-tone looks created with layered colour particles.

July - Sequins and Sparkles

The timeless allure of gold and all things sparkly has been the basis of many memorable Formica® laminate patterns over the decades.

August - Ondine

Ondine, the next décor to feature in our 110 anniversary, captured the psychedelic aesthetic of the 1960s with its fluid, water-like effects.

September - 100th Anniversary Collection

The four collections from the 100th anniversary celebration blurred the lines between the past, present and future of design.

October - VirrVarr

A classic European pattern with royal roots, VirrVarr features a subtle yet structured design.

November - Willow

Hand-drawn trees in an architecture plan inspired Willow, a ‘60s design staple.

December - Skylark

This 1950s pattern is arguably the most iconic in the Formica® laminate range.
