Formica Corporation and Xavier Basketball Team Up to Plant 2,740 Trees

CINCINNATI (April 23, 2018) — Formica Corporation and the Arbor Day Foundation will once again be planting trees to support the Threes for Trees campaign in partnership with Xavier University Athletics and Learfield Sports' Xavier Sports Properties.

Ten trees will be planted in recognition of Arbor Day (April 27, 2018) for every three-point basket made by the Musketeers during the 2017-18 men's basketball season. Xavier made 274 three pointers during the season resulting in 2,740 trees being planted in the Mississippi River Valley—the highest total in the four years of this partnership. In 2014-15, 234 three point baskets were made resulting in 2,340 trees planted across the United States through funds donated by Formica Corporation in commitment to sustainability. During the 2015-16 season, 255 three point baskets were made, and last year, 267 threes were made.

Xavier Men's Basketball fans were updated on the number of threes made, and trees planted, throughout the season through various marketing elements such as graphics and signage inside the Cintas Center, radio broadcasts, and GoXavier.com. All three-pointers made, at both home and away games, counted towards the total number of trees planted.
