Exploring Formica® Patterns Collection with Lucy Turner’s Artwork
In June 2024, the Formica Group Showroom in London unveiled the “Gateshead Car Park” wall panel, a striking new artwork by Lucy Turner. This piece pays homage to the mid-century brutalist architecture and the Formica UK factory's history in North Shields.

Inspired by the iconic Gateshead car park, famously featured in the 1970 Michael Caine film "Get Carter," Lucy combines strong lines and geometric shapes with laminates from the new Formica® Patterns Collection. Each element of the artwork, meticulously laser-cut and inlaid with Formica® laminate, captures the essence of this architectural landmark.
Designed in 1962 by the Owen Luder Partnership and opened in 1967, the Gateshead car park was once a symbol of cutting-edge architecture. Lucy's panel, measuring 1800mm x 1200mm, brings this history to life with diverse laminate textures and patterns.
Experience the fusion of art and history, showcasing Lucy Turner's craftsmanship and Formica Group’s commitment to innovation.
