Airstream the oldest manufacturer of recreational vehicles in the U.S. used Formica® High Pressure Laminate (HPL) for a new version of their award-winning European travel trailer to stunning effect.
Founded 80 years ago Airstream Inc. has been making innovative well designed high quality trailers and motorhomes for adventurers all over the world. The company extended its reach to Europe in 2004 working in tandem with design teams in the USA.
Airstream decided to take all the design work in house for the Series 2 684 International travel trailer and to develop the new vehicles completely themselves giving them control on materials and specification. Inside the trailer Formica® Woods High Pressure Laminate (HPL) in Ebony was used for panelling and units. It brings a harmonious balance between the darker elements and the lighter materials used elsewhere making the new décor of the Series 2 look more like a ‘loft apartment’ than a caravan.
“Our goal was to find a colourway and design that was contemporary warm smart and very much unlike every other recreational vehicle” explains Michael Hold sales director for Airstream Europe.
Ebony is available in Naturelle a popular finish designed to enhance the realism and appeal of woodgrains. This unique surface is available on a selection of species from the Woods collection. The velvety feel creates an elegant finish.
Michael Hold goes on to say: “We chose Formica laminate because of its inherent qualities. Formica HPL is an ideal choice for any horizontal or vertical surface as it is easy to clean resistant to impact heat and scratches maintains its looks and requires minimal upkeep. In unifying two iconic brands we provided Airstream owners with a trailer that will stand the test of time both in quality and design aesthetics.”
