High Pressure Laminate
Formica® High Pressure Laminate is constructed from several layers of paper impregnated with thermosetting synthetic resins. These are fused together under heat and high pressure. The result is a durable, decorative and hygienic surfacing material.
The physical and performance properties of Formica HPL, and its decorative possibilities, make it ideal for use as a door facing; but do not use Veneer Laminate, Metallic Laminate or Glow items from the Plain Colours range for heavy duty doors.
For most situations, HPL is the most practical and economical solution for door facing. However, for heavy duty work, and for contexts liable to particularly heavy impact, scratching and general wear, Formica ColorCore® offers a robust alternative to HPL.

Formica ColorCore
Formica ColorCore is a high performance surfacing laminate with integral solid colour throughout its thickness. Available in standard grade, its robustness and enduringly fresh appearance is particularly suitable for high wear surfaces, so it has proved itself as ideal for door applications.
Four ColorCore items are included in the specially selected Door Collection; but you can see the full range of 15 items by clicking here: View ColorCore Range.
You can view the ColorCore Data Sheet for an overview of its properties, or, if you need practical information on fabricating ColorCore laminate, click here.

Laminate Grade
Although doors are vertical surfaces, the requirement for good impact resistance is best satisfied by the use of horizontal grade laminates.
Fire Resistance for Doors with Laminate Facings
Fire resistance depends only on the fire properties of the core of the door. Providing that the core has the required fire resistance (eg half-hour / one hour) then, from a fire performance point of view, any grade of Formica laminate may be used on its surface.
