Environmental Policy

Formica Limited Environmental Policy

Formica Limited recognises that sustainability is an important consideration in today's specification process. As the only manufacturer of High Pressure Laminate (HPL) in the UK and a supplier of other bonded components, we also recognise the environmental impact of our activities and processes.

We are committed to using sustainable resources including paper from recycled sources and managed forests. Wood veneer laminates are produced using reconstituted veneers from managed and sustainable sources. Our procurement policy is one of sourcing raw materials from responsible vendors who can demonstrate their ability to work within FSC/PEFC standards.

We are also highly committed to the protection of the environment. In order to facilitate this, an Environmental Management System is in place, working towards accreditation to ISO14001: 1996(E) in our manufacturing plants.

This is looking at ways of continually improving levels of environmental protection and reducing wastes generated during our operations and commercial activities. It has set a target, for example, to recycle 70% of in-process scrap materials by 2007. A fume abatement plant has also been introduced. Dust is the principal waste, which is burned to produce energy in a dedicated plant. Routine monitoring of surface water drains and safe disposal of hazardous liquid wastes is also carried out.

A commitment to the Environmental Management System at all levels of the Company includes instigating Auditing and Review procedures with the aim of defining and communicating improvements on a regular basis.
