Formica Corporation Debuts the “Water-Smoothed” Riverwash™ Finish for High Pressure Laminates New Designs Reflect Growing Popularity of Naturalized Man-Made Materials
CINCINNATI (June 1, 2006) – Beneath the waves of a rambling river, nature sometimes reveals man-made materials that have been aged to a fine patina by ever-flowing water. Now, Formica Corporation brings the look of water-smoothed concrete, aggregate and burnished metal indoors with its new Riverwash™ High Pressure Laminate (HPL) Finish Collection for residential and commercial applications. Smooth and sleek as a glinting stone washed ashore, the finishes bring an array of new design possibilities for architects, designers, builders and consumers. The trend for naturalized man-made materials continues to evolve as people seek more ways to add outdoor colors and textures to indoor environments. According to Renée Hytry, senior vice president global design, Formica Corporation, “The popularity of granite and stone has extended to cast concrete as an interior decorative element. At the same time, interest in metal has gone beyond stainless steel, brushed nickel and bronze to metals that offer a weathered, industrial look. Our new Riverwash Collection offers many more choices to complement the mix of naturalized materials that have become so popular in today’s interiors.”
The Look of Man-Made Materials Aged to a Fine Patina All of the new Riverwash designs combine the look and feel of real concrete or metal with the durability, ease of fabrication and value of high-pressure laminate. The collection includes six designs with the sleek appearance and dry-touch feel of naturalized man-made materials. Riverwash Finish features a registered low-luster dual gloss texturing, which mimics the aggregate stones found in concrete and rusted elements of metals. Riverwash Finish is offered in two design patterns: the Crete Series and the Rust Series. Riverwash Finish: The Crete Series The Riverwash Crete Series provides a realistic version of water-marked cast concrete scattered with multicolored stones. Realcrete is a soft warm gray and coordinates beautifully with the new Formica® Solid Surfacing Real Concrete also being introduced this year. Sandcrete features a warm “blonde” colored concrete look, while Claycrete provides the effect of terra-cotta stained concrete.
Riverwash Finish: The Rust Series Introducing a new-aged metallic influence to interiors, Riverwash Rust Series features multiple colored corroded metal and wall-inspired surfaces, from light neutrals to vogue browns. Plaster Rust has an ivory appearance accented with gray and rust tones. Iron Rust is a realistic iron red, highlighted with hints of warm brown and blue gray. Rounding out the series is Bronze Rust, a deep chocolate brown accented with warm gold.
“The Riverwash Finish Collection is a natural extension for Formica Corporation based on the success of our highly popular Etchings, Honed, Naturelle, Microdot and Authentix collections, which replicate the natural look and textures of hand-hewn stone, granite, wood and metal,” says Joe Thompson, vice president of marketing and corporate branding, Formica Corporation. “By offering this new finish in six unique color blends, we’re making it easy for architects, builders, designers and consumers to create innovative interior designs using the most popular trend-forward materials.”
