Formica® Corporation Receives GREENGUARD™ Children and Schools™ Certification |
CINCINNATI (July 10, 2007) – Formica Corporation has received GREENGUARD™ Children and Schools™ Certification from the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) for Formica® brand laminate, Formica® DecoMetal, Formica® Stone, Formica® solid surfacing and frpSelect.
“Formica Corporation has always been an environmentally-responsible company,” said Joe Thompson, vice president of marketing and corporate branding, Formica Corporation. “By earning the GREENGUARD Children and Schools Certification, we assure designers and product specifiers that Formica brand products are healthy options for our children.”
Research finds inhalation to be one of the main ways children are exposed to chemicals that are associated with endocrine disorders, reproductive and developmental toxicity, asthma and allergies. Children are more heavily exposed to environmental toxins though higher inhalation rates per pound of body weight than adults, and through greater food and water consumption.
In 2005, GEI addressed such health issues by creating the GREENGUARD Children and Schools Certification program to identify low-emitting materials specifically for educational and play environments.
