26 Globally-Inspired High Pressure Laminate Designs in New Finishes

CINCINNATI (August 22, 2007) – As technology makes the world smaller, design influence becomes more global. Formica Corporation brings the latest international design trends in woodgrains, graphics and granite to high pressure laminate with a broad 2007 collection featuring its new Luxe and Sculpted Finishes, as well as with the expansion of its Riverwash Finish to quartz and granite looks.

According to Renée Hytry, senior vice president of global design, Formica Corporation, the new designs respond to emerging trends consistent around the world. “Designers and architects are rethinking wood by exploring new species and expanding design inspiration to bark and leaves, taking a “bourgeois” approach by combining classic nostalgia with nouveau riche glamour to create high drama and romance, and by using hyper-graphic patterns that explore and experiment with scale.”

New Woodgrains in Luxe Finish
Reminiscent of the French polishing techniques used on mahogany and other expensive woods in the Victorian era, the Luxe Finish provides realistic depth, rich color and an opulent polished surface. The woodgrains in the new Luxe Woodgrain Collection include six new woodgrains and two existing bestsellers:
• Deluxe and Boutique Pears show how softly planked pear wood can become ornamental in 4” smooth, even-grained planks.
o Planked Deluxe Pear, a soft and mellow gold with only the slightest cast of pink.
o Planked Boutique Pear, a dark brown with golden highlights that create a rich warm glow.
• Glamour Cherry, a classic cathedral cherry in dark red brown.
• Prestige Walnut, a premium furniture hardwood in rich, trendy coffee brown.
• Couture Wood, a gum wood with prominent straight and interlocking grains that co-exist in a provocative and rare color combination.
• Elegant Rosewood, a classic rich, deep wood with broad and distinctive color variations of majestic red and black striping.
• Zebrano and Ebony, bestselling woods expanding into the Luxe Finish.

New Traditional and Contemporary Designs in Sculpted Finish
The Sculpted Finish marries the technology of computer-controlled carving or routing and the beauty of traditional natural materials. Ideal for solids, natural MDF looks and contemporary woodgrains, the Sculpted Finish updates classic colors such White and Black, and patterns such as MDF Solidz, Storm Solidz, Maple Woodline and Wenge Woodline.

The contemporary twisty Tangle Collection uses curvy, large-scale line drawings as superimposed images to create depth. New patterns are:
• Tangle Wheat, an intertwining of natural browns.
• Tangle Seaweed, contemporary greens interposed with white.
• Tangle Smoke, a translucent smoke gray with natural brown details.

In contrast to Tangle, the straight-lined Strand Collection uses lines and movement to evoke the feeling of wood without imitation. New patterns are:
• Wheat Strand, gold and brown blending to create warm translucency.
• Wood Strand, rich tones of cherry wood highlighted with gold.
• Seagrass Strand, cool, modern greens mixing with sea blue.

Riverwash Finish
Launched in 2006, the Riverwash Finish features a registered low-luster dual gloss texture that enhances the look and dry touch feel of popular stones as well as aged man-made materials such as rust and concrete. In 2007, Formica Corporation expands Riverwash to two new quartz and granite collections.

The Quarstone Collection features mono-colored, small-scale crystals with the depth and character of natural quartz. New patterns are:
• Crème Quarstone, a warm natural cream.
• Walnut Quarstone, a sophisticated dark chocolate brown and charcoal.
• Smoke Quarstone, a deep charcoal gray.

The Granite Collection features small crystals and large, sweeping veining to mirror the random variation found in natural granite. Styled to coordinate with today’s popular wood cabinetry stains, the nature-inspired patterns are:
• American Rose Granite, rose tones balanced with cool grays harmonize with cherry woods.
• Brazilian Brown Granite, sumptuous browns and smoke gray complement mocha stained wood work.
• Venetian Gold Granite, rich gold and warm brown highlighted against creamy white look contemporary with oak and maple cabinets.
