The Word Is Spreading Formica® Solid Surfacing Is No Longer the Industry's Best-Kept Secret
Realizing design dreams with materials reminiscent of nature

CHICAGO (April 2, 2004) - Formica Corporation has been manufacturing solid surfacing materials since the 1986. An integration of the Surell® and Fountainhead® labels, Formica® Solid Surfacing has been turning a lot of heads at the trade shows, at retail and with architects and interior designers. Best known for its innovation in the high-pressure laminate category, Formica Solid Surfacing is the next level complementing Formica brand products. Blending the best features and benefits of acrylic and polyester, Formica Solid Surfacing is one of the most durable and versatile solid surfacing materials on the market. A homogenous material, Formica Solid Surfacing has deep clarity with color and pattern that runs all the way through the material. The collections include thirteen new colors for 2004, bringing the total offering to 70 designs.

"Formica Solid Surfacing brings Formica Corporation's heritage of innovation, quality and trend-forward designs to the solid surfacing category," said Mario Gonzalez, vice president of marketing, Formica Corporation. "With new designs to suit any budget, décor or application, Formica Solid Surfacing gives consumers, architects and interior designers the freedom to do more."

The Formica Solid Surfacing line is made up of five design groups meeting a variety of application needs. Formica Solid Surfacing is ideally suited for domestic use in the kitchen and bathroom. It is also widely specified for a full range of uses in offices, banks, restaurants, hospitals and other commercial applications. Each collection is differentiated by the complexity and sophistication of the color and dimension combined with the realistic detail of floating particulates.

Sophisticated Designs
The Solid Elements group features a solid color palette for a clean, classic look ideal for mixing and matching in areas that require a neutral surface color such as kitchen counters, work islands, vanity tops and windowsills. The Basic Elements group will include two new colors for 2004. Chamois Spex, a golden brown base transformed with darker particulate mist and Mocha Spex, which coordinates well with dark wood trends and rich chocolate accent colors.

The Formica Traditions group consists of six designs that are luxurious yet traditional with small particulate visuals. Three new patterns expand the Formica Classics group, including River Rock Mosaic, Botanical Mosaic and Coastal Mosaic. Enriched with larger, more complex aggregate, the Mosaic designs mimic the look of nature, offering a sense of warmth and stability. Consumers who expect the best for less can enjoy the natural look and feel of real granite and stone with the durable ease of solid surfacing, a popular choice for kitchen countertops. Formica Solid Surfacing easily coordinates to meet the needs of today's homeowner.

Representing the finest offerings from Formica Solid Surfacing, the Formica Signatures group has the largest floating particulates, creating unsurpassed dimension. Three new Ice designs - Smoke Ice, Deep Blue Ice and Citron Ice - complement contemporary residential and commercial interiors. The translucent surface of the Ice designs shimmer with pearlescent subtlety. In addition, the Signatures collection includes new stone looks with large agate and terrazzo particulates - Shell Stone, Haze Agate, Tawny Agate, Blanco Terrazzo and Crema Terrazzo. Beauty and functionality go hand in hand with crossover patterns ideal for both commercial and residential surface pu rposes.

Ease of fabrication, depth of design
Formica Solid Surfacing combines the look and feel of natural materials with the strength and design flexibility of a synthetic solid surface. Constructed with an Acrylic/Polyester Copolymer (APC-78) that has demonstrated exceptional performance in terms of flexibility, ease of fabrication and significant dust reduction, Formica Solid Surfacing retains superior resistance to stain and solvents. Known for its clarity and color depth, APC-78 combines the benefits of both acrylic and polyester resins. For the fabricator, this means that Formica Solid Surfacing is more flexible and easier to handle. For the consumer, it means that Formica Solid Surfacing will have deeper clarity, with color running all the way through the material to enhance the look of any application.

"Formica Solid Surfacing hasn't been a secret - we've been in the solid surfacing industry since 1986. We have simply consolidated under one umbrella to make it easier for our customers and under a name that they trust," added Gonzalez.
