Formica Corporation Expands High-Pressure Laminate Collections With New Mixtures of Color and Texture New Designs Reflect Consumers' Attitudes Toward the Times
CHICAGO (April 2, 2004) - Mixing more colors and textures than ever, Formica Corporation has expanded its extensive high-pressure laminate (HPL) collections with new designs that evoke consumers' attitudes toward the times in which they live. Formica Corporation, which monitors design trends around the world, has focused its 2004 introductions on consumers' desire for products that express their individuality amid familiar comforts. The introductions evoke everything from hand-hewn granite and stone, to etched, metallic and translucent finishes, to natural wood grain and rattan textures that combine realism with easy care.
"We're excited to offer an even broader range of sophisticated HPL designs, all of which bring a level of authenticity that is unmatched in man-made materials," says Mario Gonzalez, vice president of marketing, Formica Corporation. "The breadth of our collection makes for endless possibilities in residential and commercial applications. These new products give architects, builders, designers and consumers the freedom to do so much more with their projects - in essence, if they can imagine it, they can do it with Formica? Brand Laminate."
The Honed Finish Collection: Hand-Hewn Textures A Formica-exclusive finish, the new Honed Finish Collection looks and feels like real stone yet is priced nothing like real stone. The low-sheen satin finish with subtle surface clefts and crevices mimics softly brushed stone. The texture gives an informal, subdued appearance that imparts warmth and character. The collection includes Autumn Indian Slate, Madras Indian Slate, Himalayan Slate and Basalt Slate, as well as Baltic Granite, Labrador Granite and Travertine.
The Etchings Finish Collection: Beauty Etched in Stone Formica's HPL Etchings Finish continues to be popular for those looking to achieve the look of granite. The Etchings Finish captures the tiny fractures and fissures reminiscent of those found in real granite or stone and is available on select Formica Brand Laminate Granite, Crystall and Quartzite patterns. New designs for 2004 include Baltic Granite and Labrador Granite. The Authentix Collection?: The Look of Lustrous Metal
Laminates enter the next dimension with the Authentix Collection, which combines the look and feel of real metal with the durability, ease of fabrication and value of high-pressure laminate. Metallic finishes blend into any environment style or color scheme, yet many metals damage easily and are difficult to fabricate. Now, new technology allows Formica Corporation to replicate not only the visual qualities of metal, but its textures as well.
Four gleaming colors - Aluminum, Stainless, Brass and Copper - offer realistic metal visuals. Several stylish surfaces have been created exclusively for the collection: Brushed presents a classic linear look; Powdered has an understated textural finish; Punched features small embossed square shapes; and Quilted offers a retro diner-inspired look featuring raised harlequin diamond shapes. The Woodgrains Finish Collection: Outdoor Looks Come Indoors
The warmth and beauty of wood comes indoors with two new impeccably reproduced natural-grained laminates. Refined Butcherblock, an updated version of an old classic, provides a fresh, modern and trend-forward look for countertops or wet bars. Another popular look with designers is Indonesian-inspired rattan, valued for its sustainability and use as a renewable re so urce. Formica Corporation captures this look in easy-care HPL with Rattan Cane, a line extension of the highly successful Bamboo Cane introduced in 2003.
The Patterns Collection: Artful Renderings and Subtle Palettes Eleven new designs featuring artful renderings, subtle palettes and fine textures join the expanded Patterns Collection, which now includes 121 unique options for personal expression. For example, Painted Screen, Silk Screen and Shoji Screen designs combine the look of aged industrial mesh with sheer, delicate textures. Asian themes are expressed in the Beluga and Beluga Beige patterns, which evoke the colorful, futuristic style of Japanese "Pop-Art Anime" animation. Other looks are borrowed from natural stone designs and include Baltic Granite, Labrador Granite, Autumn Indian Slate, Madras Indian Slate, Himalayan Slate and Basalt Slate.
The Formations Collection: Reflecting Geological Diversity In keeping with the theme of mixing familiar colors and textures in creative ways, the Formation Collection continues to offer architects, designers and consumers a range of patterns revealing Earth's geological diversity in restful yet intriguing color mixtures. Included are 37 patterns that range from deep mixed blues in Bayou Oxide, to lush, fresh greens in New Leaves, to the finely speckled grays of Glacier Slate.
