Formica Group, the original inventor of laminate, will showcase a selection of the 113 new introductions from the recently launched Formica® Collection at 100% Design, London (23rd - 26th September).
As the main sponsor of the Design & Build Hall, Formica Group will present its portfolio of innovative decors on stand E478. At the same time, visitors to 100% Design can enjoy a multi-sensory experience when stopping at the different installations built with Formica® laminates around the central theme of colour.
Interact with Formica® laminates at Mattergarden
Created as an interactive environment, the Mattergarden juice bar, developed from an original concept by design studio Mette, will feature Formica® laminates throughout this relaxed and imaginative seating area.
Caroline Santos of Mette: “The concept is to create a laidback space where people can relax and discover decors and textures in their own time while conversing over a fresh organic juice. Seating is integral to the interactive aspect of the juice bar, placing visitors in contact with the material. The Formica Collection gives a different personality and shape to surface which we feel complements our inventive ways for passers-by to perch, roost or congregate.”
Benches, angular-shaped seating structures, and leaning posts will showcase the lustre of the elemental DecoMetal® by Formica Group range, including Woven Brass; patterns such as Concrete Formwood for an on-trend concrete aesthetic; and a variety of matt and gloss finishes in tonal earthy and liquid shades like Kashmir, Dark Chocolate and Seed.
On display at the juice bar will be Formica® Magnetic laminate in Diamond Black, creating an interactive chalkboard that will feature an open question for attendees to engage with and leave their thoughts.
A combination of taste, aroma, and colour at the Half-Three Café
Designed by Daniel Rous of Fabrica, the Half-Three Café will offer its guests a cup of freshly brewed tea in a contemporary environment inspired by the taste, aroma and colour of the traditional English beverage.
Daniel comments: “This year’s theme for 100% Design is centred around colour. I was looking for a palette of tonal colours to complement the different shades of tea served throughout the day. Formica Group’s diverse range of surfaces offered us the freedom to be unrestricted with our creative vision.”
Neutral colours from the Formica Collection – Magnolia, New Magnolia, Cygnet, Porcelana, as well as the avant-garde texture Plex™ in Copper from the DecoMetal® range have been specified for the table tops and the bar surface.
Kirsteen Martin, creative director at Studio Design UK, specified Formica Group’s Denim, Just Blue, Viola, Carnaval, Levante and Energy in Microdot™, Plex and Sculpted™ textures for the central staircase at Olympia, further embodying the event’s theme of colour. Once on the upper floor, visitors will find the show’s restaurant where Kirsteen clad the bar with Denim in Plex.

Formica Group around the London Design Festival
As well as having a presence at 100% Design, Formica Group is collaborating with designers exhibiting in other areas of London Design Festival. Using Younique® by Formica Group, award-winning designer Lindsey Lang has created a new print for Michael Sodeau’s tables. ‘Rush Hour’ has been inspired by the buzzing London Underground and will be showcased at the pop up Transport for London’s Pick Restaurant during Design Junction, London (23rd - 26th September).
At TENT London (24th - 27th September), visual artist and past-winner of the Formica’s Design a Laminate competition, Kate Farley, will be presenting her bespoke patterns. Applied for the first time on a laminate sheet, Kate collaborated with the Younique® by Formica Group team to achieve a perfect rendition of her designs.
